Bucharest of Old - Bucharest
Every May, Bucharest steps back in time for the Bucharest of Old festival, celebrating the city as it was 200 years ago. The festivities include parades of 19th-century costumes, rides in horse-drawn carriages, traditional food and musical performances.

Gayfest - Bucharest
Founded in 2004, GayFest is the annual gay pride festvial in Bucharest, featuring cultural events such as film screenings, art exhibitions, theatrical performances and parties, as well as debates and seminars on LGBT issues and, of course, a pride parade.
The event is organised by the non-profit organisation ACCEPT, Romania's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights organisation.

EuropaFest - Royal Palace

EuropaFest is Romania's international music festival, presenting a series of concerts by top jazz, blues and pop bands from around 50 countries. It takes place at Bucharest's Royal Palace, the former official royal residence.
This week-long musical bonanza includes more than 300 musicians performing live, an international competition for piano, clarinet & composition, classical concerts, masterclasses and the Young Talents Stage, with a Gala Concert on the final evening.

ArtPhoto Image Festival

The ArtPhoto Image Festival is Bucharest's only photography festival, encompassing exhibitions, lectures and auctions aimed at fast tracking the artists' careers. Portfolio reviews, held at the Hotel Casa Bucur, encourage photographers to promote their work to curators, gallery owners and media specialists.
There are also lectures and film screenings at the French Cultural Institute and plenty of opportunities for informal networking and meetings with other artists.

Bucharest Street Music Festival

This weekend-long street music festival takes place throughout Bucharest's charming old city centre, bringing back the sounds of the medieval troubadours.

Craftsmen's Fair - Village Museum
This Romanian craftsmen's fair, also known as Targul Mesterilor Populari, takes place annually at the Village Museum in Bucharest, one of the biggest and oldest outdoor museums in Europe.
Craftsmen from all over the country flock to the city to share their skills through free workshops on traditional woodcarving, rug weaving, textile weaving and embroidery, pottery moulding, glass blowing, egg painting and more.

Johann Strauss International Festival - Bucharest
The Johann Strauss International Festival in Bucharest is a week-long celebration of classical music. Held at venues around the city, including the George Enescu Musuem, it features classical concerts, organ recitals, opera recitals and a closing concert from a 22-piece salon orchestra. Musicians from Romania, Germany, Vienna and the UK take part.

International Furniture And Interior Design Fair
BIFE-TIMB is Romania's international furniture and interior design fair, held annually at ROMEXPO, attracting more than 400 participants from around 18 countries.
The theme for 2006 is yet to be decided, but visitors can expect a rich selection of classic and contemporary designs in home and office furniture, interior and exterior decoration, lighting and much more.

BCR Oper Romania - Bucharest

The BCR Open Romania is an ATP tennis tournament held every September at the BNR Arenas in Bucharest.
The tournament began in 1993, with Croatian Goran Ivanisevic winning the singles title. Romanians Andrei Pavel and Gabriel Trifu took home the doubles title in 1998 and in 2005 two local players reached the semi-finals. However, Romania has yet to celebrate a home-grown singles victory. Will the 2006 edition mark a turning point in the country's tennis history?
